2. As a Kindergarten Special Education Teacher I am frequently presented with the challenge of trying to find ways to teach my students to read, recognize the alphabet and begin writing. I work very hard to incorportate multisensory techniques into my daily lessons. After a training with Eileen this summer I realized a whole new world of reading techniques that can be easily used in my classroom. Eileen will be available to conference with me throughout the course of the school year as ongoing education process. I will be attending another training offered during the school year as well. Eileen will come to my classroom and observe when needed if I have a particularly puzzling student. She will provide me with methods to make my teaching, planning and assessment more effective.
Eileen has provided me with a list of reading resources that can be used in my planning as well as games to allow students to play on the classroom smart board. We will also plan to skype a mulitsensory reading lesson during the school year.
3. Kentucky Standards Addressed:
RD-EP-1.0.1
Students will apply word recognition strategies (e.g., phonetic principles, context clues, structural analysis) to determine pronunciations or meanings of words in passages.
4. Assessment:
Students will be assessed weekly on their reading targets using teacher created assessments and Aims Web weekly probes and progress monitoring data.
I would be interested in learning more about the multisensory reading lesson. I teach kindergarten and look for ways to enhance instruction for struggling readers and to just make it easier and fun for others. I also collaborate with the special educators with students in my room. I generally have students diagnosed with autism, developmental delays, and speech delays. Some of these students additional receive occupational and physical therapy. I have heard wonderful things about Springer.
